Mangatta is a hotel and beach club on the Rosario Islands, reached by sport boat from the private Marina Todomar in Bocagrande. The day pass gives you the run of the property for the day: a bed, sofa or sun lounger, the restaurant, the bar, and the water in front of it.

Boats leave in the morning and take a panoramic run through the archipelago on the way out. Mid-morning there is a snorkelling trip to a sunken light aircraft lying in shallow water nearby — the wreck locally associated with the Pablo Escobar story. Back at the club there is an à la carte lunch with eight dishes to choose from, a DJ every day, freshwater showers and towels, and kayaks, paddle boards and bicycles to use as you like. Boats return to Cartagena at around 3:00 PM.

Two levels of pass are available. The standard pass runs a 2×1 bar all day plus a beer bucket deal; the VIP pass replaces both with an open bar on four cocktails and national beer all day, and adds snorkel masks for use around the club.

Not included in the ticket price: Parques Nacionales tax, and compulsory insurance of $25,000 COP per person which must be paid in cash.

Check in at the private Marina Todomar in Bocagrande and board a sport boat for the Rosario Islands. The crossing includes a panoramic run through the archipelago on the way out to the club.

Arrival at Mangatta, then snorkelling

You are met with a glass of champagne or natural juice and shown to your spot — a bed, a sofa or a sun lounger, whichever is free. The whole property is open to day-pass guests: the restaurant zone, air-conditioned or open-air seating, freshwater showers and towel service, and a DJ playing every day.

Between roughly 10:30 and 11:00 AM there is a snorkelling trip to a sunken light aircraft in the shallows nearby — the wreck locally associated with the Pablo Escobar story. The rest of the day is yours: kayaks and paddle boards are included, and there are bicycles for riding around the island. VIP guests also have snorkel masks to use around the club itself.

The bar runs all day. On the standard pass that means 2×1 on Cuba libre, margarita and mojito, plus a beer bucket on national and international beers where you pay for five and the sixth is free. On the VIP pass it is an open bar on margarita, mojito, tinto de verano and Cuba libre, with national beer (Águila) all day.

Lunch, then the 3:00 PM return

Lunch is served à la carte with eight dishes to choose from and a non-alcoholic drink included: breaded corvina fillet with coconut rice, mixed salad and patacones; fried whole fish with coconut rice, mixed salad and patacones; grilled chicken breast with white rice, mixed salad and fried sweet plantain; prawn risotto; vegetarian pasta with sautéed vegetables; penne bolognese; chicken nuggets with chips; or pizza.

Afterwards there is time for a last swim and a shower before the boats head back, arriving in Cartagena at around 3:00 PM. Return times can shift with the weather.

Mangatta is a hotel as well as a beach club, so the day pass gives you a property rather than a patch of sand: restaurant seating indoors or out, freshwater showers, towels supplied, and a DJ every day.

It is also one of the few passes on this coast that puts a real activity in the middle of the day. The snorkelling trip to the sunken light aircraft takes place mid-morning, and kayaks, paddle boards and bicycles are all included rather than rented on the day.
