The San Bernardo Islands are farther off the beaten path than the Rosario Islands, quieter, more remote, and for many people the most beautiful island destination reachable from Cartagena. Because of the distance the tour departs early, around 7:00 AM, giving your group a full private day to explore one of Colombia’s most spectacular and least crowded island areas.

The first recommended stop is Isla Mangles, a protected natural area with calm, clear water and lush mangrove scenery that feels completely untouched. It’s a great spot for swimming and taking in the kind of Caribbean nature that’s harder to find closer to the city.

From there the boat heads to Islote Santa Cruz, one of the most densely populated islands on earth and one of the most fascinating cultural stops on the entire tour. The island is a genuine community built on a tiny strip of land in the middle of the Caribbean, and walking through it is unlike anything else you’ll do on a boat trip in Colombia.

The third stop is Isla Múcura, a favorite for lunch, beach time, and relaxed Caribbean views. Lunch is not included in the base price but available to order at the island. Múcura is also where guests have the option to swim with nurse sharks in a controlled local experience, one of the more memorable highlights of the day for those who are up for it.

All day trips return to Cartagena by early evening.
